Cluster headache changes after Covid?

Hi All,

I'm just wondeing if my experience is unique or if anyone else has had similar issues after Covid....

I've been an episodic sufferer for about 17 years, and my bouts of headaches have always been fairly similar - 3 to 5 weeks of one headache every 2nd or 3rd day, with the cycles anywhere from 6 to 18 months apart.

I started a new cycle of headaches mid-May and these followed the usual pattern, but then I caught Covid mid-June and it seems to have sent my cluster headaches into overdrive! I am now getting them almost daily, sometimes 3 or 4 per day, which has never happened in before now.

I only take Sumatripan injections for them, which means I'm maxing out my allowance of 2 per day some days. I'm waiting to speak to my GP next week about alterntive treatments but has anyone else had Covid and found it to affect their cluster headache in any way?

Thanks,

David.

I also got covid a few weeks ago. I did not know I had it at first I just thought I was having an attack as I just felt a bit run down and then got all the usual pain and symptoms of my CH, on about the third day of pain I got other flu like symptoms and ultimately tested positive for covid.

I have been stuck in a cycle for about three weeks now and it has been horrendous, none of my pain killers worked and I have just been given oxygen which appears to help but not stop it.

I only got diagnosed in March after suffering horrrdous painful debilitating headaches regularly for the last two years. I have also been diagnosed with chronic migraine and would agree that covid has had a negative effect on my condition. In particular I have noticed the usual level of exhaustion I feel during an attack and after is worse not just the pain.

maybe you could ask to try oxygen also ?

Take care --

I got Covid a couple of weeks ago and it changed my CH cycle. Normally it’s concentrated on my right eye, February to early April at 1.30 in the morning. During covid it’s all over the place, can be anytime day or night and the pain covers most of the right hand side of my face. I’ve been covid  negative for 4 days now but still getting the CH pain. Liz on the helpdaesk has been really helpful. In fact they should rename it The Extremely Helpful Desk.....

Sumatriptan jabs still effective.

Anyway Dave B, you are not alone!
