Triggers

Hi all

As many of you I experience a number of environmental triggers for attacks including warm stuffy rooms, perfumes, aerosols etc. However, has anyone found cigarettes or smoking to act as a trigger?

I gave up smoking during a bout to make a deal with a doctor. The bout pattern changed for the worse.
I started smoking again after another discussion with the surgery's health professionals, and the bout calmed again.

All the things that Steve has mentioned are know triggers for attacks.  smoking doesn't seem to make any difference, but if you are a smoker, you have a higher risk of developing arterio-sclerosis and if you develop that  you cannot use the Imigran injections!  it's in your best interests as a sufferer to keep your background health as good as possible.

My triggers tend to be smell related - cigarette smoke, aftershave/perfumes, garlic and onion.

Cigarette smoke is definitely one of the worst for me, and can smell it from a distance. I was on a bus yesterday and a man walked on and sat behind me. He STANK of cigs, and it was like he had smacked me round the head with a spade the moment he got on the bus!

Arise and be all that you dreamed.

Luckily cigarette smoke is not a trigger for me, don't know where my stress levels would be if it was sometimes.

Alcohol is a no no for me when I'm in cycle. Instant attack if I have any.

Know how you feel Dorothy, I can't even have sherry trifle, that's enough to set me off.

Thankfully, as long as I'm selective with my alcohol, I can still drink. Can't touch beers, most ciders and most wines, but that's okay because I prefer my rum! Wink

Unfortunately alcohol is a nono for me, I haven't had a drink for over ten years now.
