STUDY AT QS - Verapamil R in the prophylaxis of cluster headache

Study of Verapamil R in the prophylaxis of episodic cluster headache

The Headache Group at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery is currently involved in a clinical trial of a new version of a drug called verapamil in the use of episodic cluster headache.  This drug is the first line agent in cluster headaches but its use is normally complicated by a slow dose increase due to the drug’s potential effects on slowing the heart rate.  The new version which has been developed, R-Verapamil, has fewer effects on the heart rate and the study is to investigate whether this makes the drug safer and more convenient to use in cluster headache.

If you have episodic cluster headache and would like to know more about this study please contact us via email (headache@ucl.ac.uk) or telephone on 02034483976. Further information can also be seen here: http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/cluster-headaches/Pages/clinical-trial-details.aspx?TrialId=EUCTR2012-003729-62-GB&Condition=Cluster%20headaches&pn=1&Rec=0&CT=0
