Reaction to injections what now?
Val I've developed really bad chest pain and pain in left arm and hand. Dr says no more injections. I can't take verapamil or topremate I seem to react to everything. At home with 2 days of chronic migraines and ch seems to be flaring up. Is there anything that I can do? Taking my amitriptaline to knock me out and get some relief. Dr says she will refer me back to dr Bahra again but could take a few weeks. Oxygen only relieve me for a while

Hi Claire,
I had exactly the same problems with the injections. I thought I was having a heart attack. I tried the Zomig nasal sprays- which were a bit hit-and miss. I gave up with them in the end but they migt help you.
I also had problems with the preventatives ( I've tried 26!).and only recently got O2 so I do understand. how utterly rubbish it is for you. I did find a high dose of dispersible asprin quite helpful (900mg), so you could think about this (obviously check with you GP etc). I'm now on Lithium, which to my surprise seems to be helping- so cant take the asprin anymore. Does hot/cold packs help at all?
Perhaps the helpline will be able to give more help. But hang on in there in the meantime.

The thought of not having treatment options seems hideous now but this topic reminds me that for years (until a diagnosis) I got by with one of those microwavable wheat cushions to manage the pain.
Hi Clare,
Give the Helpline a call 01646 651979, and yes go back and see Dr Bahra!
Take care

Hello Clare,
My husband only ever used one Sumatriptan injection because it caused temporary slight paralysis on one side...like a mini stroke I suppose, luckily over in a couple of hours. The GP said no Sumatriptan again ever. Since then he has always had Zomig nasal sprays.

Hello Clare
I don't know if you tolerate steroids, but your neuro or GP could prescribe them for you. The usual regime is 60mgs a day for five days, reducing to 50mgs on day six and reducing by 10 mgs every three days thereafter until the dose has been tapered off. This may give you a break from attacks for a short time and might even be enough to see off your cycle, that is if you tolerate it. I'm not a health professional but a chat with your doctor should give you the answer you need to steroid toleration. Steroid 'tapers' are used to give long term episodic sufferers much needed breaks. Could you not call Dr Bahra's headache nurse/team? I am sure she would see you sooner than a few weeks if she knew you were in trouble.
Val.
