Nik Patel - neuro surgeon

Hi

My daughter has chronic cluster headaches - diagnosed by Nicola Giffin. She’s received several nerve blocks over the last 18 months and is now going to have a procedure performed by the neuro surgeon Nik Patel - it’s not the permanent occipital stimulator but he’s going to insert 3 probes - 2 into the back of her neck and 1 in her cheek which will then have high radio frequency through them to make more space for the nerves to pass through the muscles. Has anyone else had this treatment and if so what was your experience ?

New one on me, the only similar operation I can think of is one called SPG ,that nerve -the spheno-palatine ganglion - is in the cheek and is stimulated by an external hand held device.  If you can find out the name of it and then google it, that would be a help.  Your GP will have had a letter from the neuro-surgeon regarding the procedure and the GP will be able to give you the name.

Hope this helps
