New Demand Valve but told to return portable cylinder!

Just been told by my oxygen company that because I have a new prescription for a demand valve, I have to return my portable cylinder. When I said I still needed it, they said it wouldn't be refilled etc.

I've checked here and on your FB pages and am liaising with my neuro consultant for a new Part B form to cover my portable as I gather only neuros  can submit these. But is this new practice? If so, maybe people need to submit both prescriptions/ HOOFs at the same time so as not lose their portables without knowing anything about it! Luckily I'm not very mobile but I imagine this would be a huge issue if you were.

Hello Sue

Well that is odd to say the least.  The practice of prescribing portable cylinders on part B forms came in about four or five years ago.  I have had portables for several years longer than that and m y supplier has no problem with that.  Plus in the last four years I have been using a demand valve and was never asked for a fresh prescription for the portables, or even for the schrader cylinders to use with the demand valve.  Who is your oxygen supplier?  We can't put the Part B forms on the website as a download, because we can't get access to them, access to the forms is restricted to medical professionals.  So we can't do much to help on that score.  I can assure you that we are addressing these concerns about portables, part B forms, refusal to supply the demand valva and the cylinders that are needed for them.  We'll check up about your particular issue and get back to you, but we will need to know which oxygen company supplies you.

Hang on in there!

Val.
