First Post and New Member my year so far

Hi Everyone,

I'm currently suffering from a cluster and it's brought me here. I've quite bad health this year and wanted to see if anyone has had a similar story or can help.

January 2016 - On a holiday abroad I contracted campylobacter - a bacterial food poisoning. It was a bad case of this not found in the uk usually. Iwas suffering from being weak and dizzy. Antibiotics brought this to a halt but it has now left me with ibs.

Febuary 2016 - I was diagnosed with Labyrnthitis for my diziness which was occuring. it lasted 3 weeks

April 2016 - Another attack of 'Labyrinthitis' for around 3 weeks.

June/July 2016 - Another attack of Labyrinthitis - this time looked at as Migraine associated vertigo. But I also started to get cluster headaches. Excruciating on one side- usually switching everyday.

Since July I have had 14 days pain free.

I take verapamil daily and have Zomig nasal sprays. My neurologist and gp seem to be in disagreement about who supllised O2 so have never managed to get it.

I am still dizzy often and have the pain everyday. Its destroying relationships and I have put on weight. I used to be helath active and in great shape. Im losing confidence at work (luckily I am still working).

Why are my cluster headaches still around 6 months later? Arent they supposed to last around 12 weeks?\

Any help would be great!

Hi Cdubew

I suggest you have a good read of our website, you will see that an episodic cluster headache bout does not have a specified number of weeks, they can be anything from a two or three weeks up to several months.  Chronic cluster h eadache is defined as experiencing attacks over a period of at least twelve  months, with a remission of four weeks or less, some sufferers go 25 years without a break from their CCH.

this document would be a good one to read for some basic info and how to get oxygen from your GP [it is on the website under Cluster Headace and in the drop down menu, click on 'The Basics']:  https://ouchuk.org/basics

Don't forget we also have a helpline, 01646 651979, leave your name and number and one of our volunteers will call you back between 10.00 am and 2.00pm, or at a time you state is suitable to you.  Please note that calls are returned from a withheld number.  All our volunteers are either sufferers, or supporters of sufferers and have a wealth of experience of CH and the other severe headache conditions.  YOu can also e-mail the helpline on helpline@ouchuk.org, or you can ask questions on info@ouchuk.org.

Welcome aboard and hope the above is of help to you.

Val.
