Sick Pay.... to lack of it?
Hi, I wonder if any of you have any information or advice on a situation that is currently presenting itself.
I have been a sufferer for 17 long years and diagnosed Chronic. My workplace isn't the most understanding or accepting of our condition and I've been off sick for 4 weeks. After this time onwards,they don't pay me any sick pay so I'll be on SSP only.
Although we have a bit in the way of savings, you'll all know they dont last long and I just wondered if any one knew of any benefits I can claim whilst off work. I, like the vast majority, have a mortgage and 3 children to support??

Hi, so sorry to hear the difficulties you face. As if having CCH was not bad enough......
One thing you could do imediately is apply for Personal Independance Payment (PIP). This has replaced DLA and is not means tested. It is for those whose disability impairs certain areas of their functioning on more than 50% of the days of the year, enough to score the points required to qualify.
Because you have CCH, by definition you must be affected on nearly every day of the year and not able rely on being able to function at any given moment in time. You start the application with a phone call and then they send you a form. If it is awarded to you it will be back paid to the date of the phone call so I recommend making that call ASAP!
Having kicked of the claim there are a number of things a Clusterhead needs to be aware of before filling out the form. My husband (CCH 6yrs) and I have recently been through this particular bizarre life experience, fought the completely dysfunctional and skulduggerous rule breaking DWP system, and acheived converting their decision that he doesn't have a problem into a maximum PIP award. This taught us many things that others need to know.
