Wedding!

Can;t remember if you can have triptans, but if you can, then ask for a prescription of frovatriptan tablets.  They have a half life in the body of up to 26 hours and I use them to get me through flights to Australia!  We did think we had found a brill preventive but the more you use them the shorter the painfree period gets.  Soooo, get a scrip a few weeks before the wedding and try one out before committing on the big day.

And I love wedding chatter!  have you decided on wedding favours, orders of service, invites, flowers, bridesmaids/attendants, music,   ooooooh I love it all!

So chatter away Chloe, it might be 42 years since I got married, but its still as fresh in my mind as yesterday, probably my husband's too, but for different reasons!   And 15  years ago my daughter married [since divorced] and that was a huge production, she married a guy from a well to do family who owned a department store, but I so enjoyed the planning of it.  We had corn dolly wedding favours, an old Suffolk tradition.  And Rod and I made the wedding cake - in a baby's bath and mixed it by hand that was enormous fun if a bit sticky.   Now Chloe, you've set me off.......  e-mail me any time.

my daughter got married recently and i kept all my gear in the car for quick access, and warned a few key people.

"Arise and be all that you dreamed"  Chloe that brought tears to my eyes.  Chatter away about your wedding - we'll be privileged to hear all the details.  So happy for you.  Have you thought about music yet?  First dance song etc - sigh

'Our' song is Roger Miller singing, 'Little Green Apples,'  its the only  love song that doesn't have the words 'I love you' in it, but every line speaks in other terms of it.

We had the traditional wedding marches, but if I had it all to do again, I'd go in to Purcell's trumpet voluntary, and out to Widor's Toccatta.  We had 'Love Divine' to the Welsh tune, Blaenwern and 'Now thank we all our God,' as our hymns.  And our church had no bells, but they had a tape recording of Yarmouth parish church bells hooked up to speakers in the church tower, sounded pretty good!  Oh and we were presented with a rolling pin during the photographs outside the church and I still use it for making pastry to this day!  See, all the memories that are tied up in that one day.  The only hiccup on the day was I wore a borrowed garter which had a button on it and as I knelt down at the altar the button was right under my knee and it was bloody painful, I had to bite my lip not to groan!  We had two wedding receptions as my parents were not on good terms (they had divorced ten years before) Dad laid on a champagne buffet and then the guests all piled into cars (no breathalyser then) and went to my mother's house for another buffet with a wedding cake this time!

No Val! Not boring at all - I loved reading that.  I had the usual traditional wedding march but at the reception we had family and friends doing a "turn".  My Auntie Peggy was in the church choir.  She sang "Danny Boy", my mother sang "Girl in the Wood", our best man sang some Irish folk song which was lovely.  No videos to keep, wish their was.  25 years later, whilst celebrating our silver wedding with a family party, a Gene Pitney song came on.  "True Love Never Runs Smooth".  Not the words but the tune reminded me of our courting days and I always called it "our" song.  I looked at Dave and said "Aaah, our song"  Dave, being full of whisky which loosens the tongue, replied "I never liked this song"  hahahaha.  That blighter.  We made some new lovely memories visiting the Grand Canyon etc a few years later and when we were in Flagstaff we went to a great place called Black Bart's.  Lots of students from the town were working there, waiting on tables etc but what a surprise when they started to sing - some on the stage, some joining in with harmonies while serving meals.  At the end of the evening they all got up together and sang Beauty and the Beast and it was so lovely and is such a special memory, it became our new song. Now Val - this post is longer than yours I think so it takes the heat off you! lol x

btw, Val and Dorothy had Handel's Messiah...... When it first came out.

yes and the proceeds went to the Foundling Hospital in London - at the first performance we were asked not to wear our skirt hoops and gentleman were asked to leave their swords at home, as there was such a crush.

Yes, love Crown Imperial!  Pachelbel's Canon is nice to play during the signing of the register, it keeps the congregation quiet. 

oh and remember to get the ushers to tell people to turn off their mobiles in church!

Tell your Mum to put together an 'emergency box' I found mine very useful at my daughter's wedding, I had elastoplast (small bridesmaid tripping on steps??), vanish stain remover, tissues, safety pins, indigestion tablets, paracetamol, hair grips, baby wipes, needles and thread all that sort of stuff.  The bridesmaid did indeed scrape her knee, a couple of guests had headaches, Rod got stains on his hired trousers, the bride needed hair grips and someon else lost a button.  What I didn't have was someone to keep a weather eye on the church car park; some bastard broke into Julia's godmother's car and stole everything. We went through every foot of video taken to see if we could see anything over the church wall, and even asked the pub next door to look at theirs, but it didn't cover that area.  So don't forget that one!

Oh and we had bubbles instead of confetti, Vicar didn't like confetti.  We had some fab pictures with the bubbles. In the flowers on the top of the cake a small rugby ball was hidden, the groom was a huge fan of Welsh rugby.  Hymns were Give me joy in my  heart, known as 'Sing Hosanna', Jerusalem and Guide me oh thou great Jehovah.  Music was Arrival of the Queen of Sheba going in and Purcell's trumpet vol coming out. And the grooms sister played French horn solo while the register was signed and his other sister spoke, 'Let me not to the marriage of true  minds admit impediment' Sonnet 114 Shakespear.  My dad read the lesson, the one about 'sounding brass', forgotten the bible quote.  The best man was a star, pure Hugh Grant but funnier. 

Your plans sound wonderful Chloe and it sounds as though it will be a lovely personal and meaningful day for you both, just as it should be.

We had black and white and colour photos!  Rod and I were married by special licence, we decided on the Friday and were married the following Friday, I had already bought my dress and we both wanted a day to remember, but not stressed out with lots of guests who we probably wouldn't see again until the next family wedding.  So we decided to invite all those who meant something to us and we had a fab day with 40 guests, even with the two wedding receptions.  We resolved the family issues when Mark was born and said you are all invited to his christening, please bury your differences for one day for a baby who doesn't care who you are or where you're from, just wants people who love him.

I've got colour cine film of my wedding!  But its in the sideboard in my late mother's house, in which sits my much hated stepfather (he's in the house and rather wish he was in the sideboard).
