Sumatriptan injection

My GP is only prescribing me 6 injections. Sometimes I use 2 a day. Forever chasing them for more. They keep telling me I'm using to many but have 4 plus attacks a day. Haven't had oxygen yet. Is there a limit the GP will subscribe or is it down to cost. Also I'm taking Amitriptyline and Verapamil. Heard it's not recommended to take Amitriptyline and Sumatriptan together. Anyone got advise about this. Diagnosed with chronic cluster headaches and feel the GP doesn't seem to understand how much pain I'm in a day. Really stressing me out.

My gp only prescribes 10 injections at a time but always provides more when I specifically ask. I think they are expensive but that's no reason to be stingy with them. I stockpile mine.

i hope you manage to get oxygen prescribed. It works so well for me but the gp needed a specialist consultation before prescribing mine. I saw a consultant online from the national migraine centre as my neurologist appointment took a whole year of waiting.
If you use Facebook I would recommend you join 'friends of OUCH' as you will get loads more responses.
Good luck with your gp

Hi Michael.

The problem is ignorance and cost.

Sumatriptan can be prescribed for migraine, but only 9 injections per month. CH is only 2 injections per 24 hours, with no monthly limit. What is probably happening is your "Doctor" is looking at migraine on their computer instead of cluster headache.

But Doctors will go a long way to get out of prescribing sumatriptan: My surgery referred me to a Neurologist because "A Neurologist had told them sumatriptan made CH worse." I chose a CH specialist (you have that right) and explained why I'd been sent to them. The next cluster bout, my surgery prescribed 60 injections, a month's worth.

You should give the helpline a call: They'll be able to advise better than I can.

Try these as they give me 24-34 hours pain free. I discovered these while in turkey as i ran out of pens. ELETRIPTAN 40mg tablet only one tablet. Manufactured by ZENTIVA. these work perfect for me but i would speak with your doctor or neuro first
