TIME SCALE !
I have just been informed that i can no longer have my Sumatriptan Injections { My prescrition is foor 8 packs of 2} as i have been on them too long { 7 years + } & need to see a headache specalist befor they will be able to issue me with any more .
As i am in the middle of an episode this is not very funny My recent episode started 14 days ago & am using 1 injection every night {2am } the other attacks i can cope with using oxygen,, & i never had an attack for 2 years previosly to that,
Can .or has anyone been told this as only have 1 weeks supply of sumatriptan & am not sure how long it is going to take to see a specialist

i am sorry to hear of the difficulties with sumatriptan injection supply. A more sensible way would be for your doctor to keep you on them until you have seen a specialist. At the moment they are denying you the treatment you need as set out in the NICE guidelines and you would be well within your rights to complain to the practice manager to get a solution on the lines above.
As to timescales for seeing a specialist, I have recently been through this for Oxygen in that the Oxygen nurse was getting concerned about the cost(they used some other words but we all know it's about cost). It very much depends on availability in your local area, you should make sure you get a headache neurologist, For me the local neurologist was a four week wait which I didn't want to risk. I opted for Queens Square which was 14 weeks but they are the experts.
One last thing I will mention is that I am an Epsidic sufferer and my main abortive treatment is oxygen. However I do get woken in the night with CH generally when my bout is at its worse. I take one 50mg sumatriptan tablet before I go to bed and this in the main ensures I am pain free overnight. Something for you to perhaps consider once you are over this hitch with the docs, We are all different and of course it may not work for you.

Now the fun starts .having been on sumatriptan injections for a long time .i have been told by my neuro that i cant take them anymore as i had a heart attack 16 months ago.i have been in an episode for 2 weeks now & have had about 10 jabs.but not any more ,so have to rely on oxygen for all my attacks from now on. Daytime ok .Night time from 2am different to say the least but we have to try till i get sorted
