Change of pattern / Shift to the day

I have recently started a new episode of Cluster Headaches, with a pattern of pain at 0100 and again around 0530.

Though horrible/painful, this feels fairly manageable - I dose up and go back to sleep.

Historically, the pain has shifted into the day time and I wonder if this happens fairly routinely or whether this shift is associated with oxygen (and rebounding)?

I've tended to think/assume that Oxygen is probably healthier than Sumatriptan but, I guess, if I felt that the latter was going to maintain a pattern of night-time attacks, I'd give the Oxygen a miss.

Any ideas?

D.

Hi David,

Any change of pattern or pain must be reported to your Neurologist.  These things do happen for reasons we do not know, but it is important that your Neurologist knows to help him advise you the best way forward.  I doubt there is anything you have done or can do to change anything, but if you want to chat things through please feel free to give our Helpline a call and leave a message and someone will call you back.  The Helpline is manned 7 days a week so you can leave a message anytime.

Liz

Thanks Elizabeth.

The pattern of my Cluster Headaches has always changed over an episode - always starting with a night-time attack, usually around 0100 and eventually shifting towards the day.  I'd kind of hoped that they'd occur in the night for longer (feels easier to manage and less disruptive) but I've speedily had day-time attacks.  Think I'm on day eight of the episode and have had 4 attacks in 24 hours (It usually takes longer before this happens).

Have a stash of Sumatriptan and Oxygen, with the possibility of a nerve block on the horizon.

Six attacks in a period of 24 hours ... Possibly a new record for me, albeit an unwanted one.

Yep, I think so.  On a "rapid referral" waiting list, so may see a consultant this week.
