more on blue badge

just a word....

oxygen made a massive difference to me but only my cch not other reactive migraines/ headaches, however the oxygen treatment has had other benefits as well.

My problem is mainly due to reactions to "substances"... printed matter esp junk mail, perfumes etc... perfume, aftershave, washing powder pong, anti persperent and on and on.. why do people shove on more deodorant etc to go to the shop or go out.... modern people pong!!!!!

sounds trivial but NOT if you're affected... and christmas is just torture "but it smells nice".....

the oxygen link is because I'm chronic ch and can be affected half a dozen times on a trip out over a day.... so I can need 4 or 5 goes of the cylinder between going out and getting home.

the "small" one dose cylinder is ok if I go to the local shop but not if I go into town.... its one dose would be ok for most and almost all taxis and busses allow it.

However I need several doses and that means the large cylinder and bus companies and taxis will not allow it (plus of course the bus is full of "pongers") and I need access to be close.

I applied for a blue badge and included a photo of me with the large cylinder with the explanation mentioned above.....

10 days later a badge arrived... no queries, no interview, no questions....... if you need the big cylinder when out doing "normal" things, it warrants a badge as you can't carry it.

Glad you got your blue badge Malcolm, well done.   I understand what you mean about the perfume thing, I cannot go in super drug and I don't like the big department stores, they usually have the perfurmerie and cosmetics dept on the ground floor as you go in and have a nasty habit of spraying perfume as you pass by.   I have found a perfume that I can wear that doesn't set me off, but I use it sparingly.  It is expensive and is oil-based, not spirit based as the cheaper ones are.  Having said that Dior 'Poison' is literally poison to my CH!

The Simple range has no smell and they do a nice deoderant which does the job but doesn't announce you presence with a wave of flowery/fruity perfume!

Hi guys,

Can I just apply to my local council (Gateshead) for a blue badge? I'm in pretty much the same situation as you Malcolm but not sure how to apply for a badge?

TIA

Ryan

Ryan

You might want to apply for PIP, which many of of use succeeded in getting.  If you get the middle or high rate of help with mobility, you automatically qualify for a blue badge.  The council may not entertain your application without proof of receipt of appropriate benefit.  Talk to your local council.

Remember whatever activity you are asked about, can you do it repeatedly, safely, in a timely fashion and to a reasonable standard - that's the criteria they apply when they assess your form.

Also, with CH every day is a bad day, some are worse.
