Gammacore Device

Hi, I have been suffering from ECH for about two years now.  There does not seem to be any pattern to my ECH and they come and go as they please throughout the whole year.  I am totally baffled as to why I have these.  Do wonder if its because of the onset of the Menopause and my neurologist seemed to think there could be a link but, as you all know, no-one really knows what causes these.  I also think I had them when I was about 11 years old!  Anyway, I am seeing my neurologist again on Monday next for a follow up appointment to see how I am doing.  I wonder if someone could please tell me exactly what a Gammacore Device is, if there are any side effects and if it helps.  I really struggle when I have a CH (I do appreciate that there are many more people on this Forum who have a far worse time than me). I have two young children and just want these ECH to stop now! Totally and utterly fed up!.  Also my partner has suggested I ask for oxygen to try and prevent the ECH  (I use Sumitriptan but would like something that would stop the CH before it reaches its peak!  Thank you x

Hi Mandy,

Welcome to the Forum, sorry you need to be here.  Under our downloads section there is a HOOF (Home Oxygen Order Form) that is clinically completed, if you print it off and take to your GP they can add their name and address and yours and fax it to you local oxygen company. in the Doctors prescribing bible the BNF (British National Formulary) it states the first line of abortive treatment for CH is Sumatriptan injections and then oxygen.  I am surprised your Neuro has not already done all this for you.

However, if you live in Scotland it is your Neuro that has to order the oxygen as your GP there cannot do it.  Also do not forget our Helpline 01646 651979.

Take care

Liz

Hi Mandy

The Gammacore is a non invasive stimulator which is placed over the vagal nerve in the neck during an attack and can be used preventatively too. It helps a lot of people, though not all and has no side effects that I know of. I am thinking of trying it when I next go into cycle. Good luck, I hope you manage to sort the oxygen out.

Regards

Dorothy
