I can't look at the boat with OUCH UK in giant letters on it without welling up!  I hope all goes smoothly for him, he and his helpers have worked so hard for months on end.

Awesome people.

This was the day after Blyth.  We told them we'd wave from Souter lighthouse at Marsden.  They're that little white dot, haha...

They took this next photo of Souter lighthouse from their vantage point.  We are the little black and white dots on the edge of the cliff.  Haha.

This is fab! And beautiful photos.

I have a question and a thought..

Question: the lovely OUCH UK whilte on green background banner...... Does that belong to OUCH? Or did someone just get it made for this occasion? Are we allowed to do that? Or does OUCH own banners that we can borrow when fundraising and publicising?

Thought: without wanting to be inappropriately nosey, it would be great with these fundraising things if a sentence was included to identify the fund raisers connection to CH.... Not everyone knows who everyone is and it would be great to know for example if the fundraiser is a sufferer or has a family member who suffers, or anything else they might care to share. Only when the person is comfortable with doing this of course.

Harriet.

Hi Harriet

Glad you're enjoying the photos. The banner was ordered by Lisa (Brian's partner) and made by a textile company for the occasion. Lisa iis the sufferer. If you click into the link I put in the second post, there's a menu there where you can read more about them and watch videos of preparation, launching and sailing.

At the moment the boat is in Lowestoft and has been having some maintenance done. Lisa will be joining Brian on the boat on 2nd July and she is so excited!

More updates soon...

Hi Darren!

Never quite sure of the ETAs as there are sometimes hold ups like maintenance/weather to hold things up but we do get to know pretty quick when the boat is on the move again.  Like today!  Yay!  Dover in sight....

and Lisa Strachan, the skipper's lady flying down to join the crew as we speak.  So exciting for her.

Skipper Brian Munro has been interviewed on the phone for Wessex FM, he's creating lots of attention and awareness as he goes. Brilliant stuff. They're in Brighton today, some essential work on the boat to do but hope they fit in a bit of relaxation too.

Hi Dorothy,

What date was the interview? The link goes to all dates.

Is there any chance it could be 'you tubed' for posterity as per the radio interviews for CH awareness day?

Update from skipper Brian Munro:

"Well yesterday proved to be yet another learning curve. We slipped the needles on the ebb of the tide which worked out pretty well and thought we would have enough tide to take us passed the Portland races. On paper this looked like a well thought out plan, however , sometimes plans don't turn out as you would like to expect. The races turned out to be a lot stronger than we had anticipated so much so that we went on to engine on full throttle and end end up going backwards in the direction we had came at over five knots. To make matters worse the engine decided it wasn't going to play and started over heating . Not a great situation to be in so far from shore. We pulled out the gib and turned and fled for safer waters to assess the situation. As it turned out ,none of us onboard are marine mechanics so an accurate assessment on the situation couldn't be established but we knew there was a problem so the decision was taken in the interest of all aboard that we would head for safe haven, that being Poole our nearest harbour. So under sail we safely docked in saltus Marina."

Latest from skipper Brian Munro: "Strong wind forecast implemented so a day of tinkering with the boat ... Tomorrow looks more favourable , here's tomorrow's passage ....the inner passage is out of the question as winds are still high but offshore is possible if we can average enough speed to pass the headland and get 5-6 miles out and stay on the ebb to pass the races ... Very early start ..."

Sorry Harriet, I have just seen your question about the radio interview, don't know how I missed it. It was 7th July and as I understand it, is only kept on for so long. I wouldn't know how to go about you tubing it...

The gang have been stranded in Weymouth as the engine failed and they need one for getting in and out of harbours. An engineer condemned the engine so Brian sourced a new one and is currently raising funds to buy it. One of our sufferers has set up a group to follow the boat on facebook and has also set up a fundraiser for the new engine so that the boat can continue on its journey. They've been interviewed again by another newspaper (from Aberdeen) and that may help matters. Should be in today I think. They deserve to carry their mission through - they've raised so much awareness for the cause and also lots of donations which have been coming straight to OUCH, for which we are very grateful. Everything's crossed!

After being stranded in Weymouth for a few weeks it now begins to look like the boat can continue its journey. Unfortunately, Alex had to leave but after appeals went out, a small business owner, Marc Rogers, shut up shop and joined Brian on the boat last night for a ten day stint. A new engine has been fitted and is to be tested out today. Good luck Brian and Marc - we look forward to following your continuing adventures!

Onwards to Plymouth today!

When you see it on the map you realise how far they've come through literally hell and high waters for us.  Two weeks stuck in Weymouth and now it's catchup time with help from Brian's temporary first mate Marc.

This is a sight for sore eyes when you see the OUCH UK banner sail past your home town.  Don't miss it if you get the chance!  I'm so pleased I got the chance to see it twice.
