Temporary lack of vision
Temporary lack of vision
Hi all,
Laying in hospital, third day of DHE. It's been going quite well and yesterday I described my pain to the Neuro as Kip 1...yes, that's a 1!
Am now in a bit of a state. 5am, classic wake-up for the beast, I awoke, to not pain but definate discomfort and my vision almost gone from my right eye. (home of the beast) While I could see the small blasts of light from the sockets, window etc, my vision was mostly gone...so dark. Scary dark!
Left eye normal, a weight hung over my right for maybe a minute -though I was panicking so could have been shorter. Sat up, closed both eyes, still only partial vision. Got up and...fine...normal. still normal two hours later, if still heavy and pupil no more than a pinprick.
Has anyone experienced this? During DHE or not? So scared it's silly. Waiting for a cuppa, meant to be going home today. Any reassurance would be welcome.
Thanks
Liz

Hello Liz,
Dont know anything about any of this, and it's my husband Pete who has CCH, but just wanted to send good wishes and sympathy. That must have been awful and no wonder you felt so freaked out.
My husband says that when he was 25 (27 years before CH) he went completely blind in both eyes at work one day, lasted around 15 minutes. He was told by the doctor that, although he didn't have any pain, it was a form of migraine. It has never happened since.
Really hope you are doing ok now.
Harriet.
Actually, have just googled migraine blindness while Pete and I were talking about this. You might find this link interesting; retinal migraine can make you blind in one eye for a short period of time.

Hi Harriet and thank you so much for your reply. I hope you and Pete are doing well...or at least as well as the CH allow.
Back home from hospital with every scan and test taken, they put the vision loss down to either trauma to the head or the severity of the CH. A carotid dissection no less. Sent home with aspirin and told to come back if the pain returns. Does it ever go? No running!, no jumping!, no heavy lifting! Am trying to rest! Ha bloody ha!
Again, thank you, and PF wishes to you both. Thank heavens for OUCH. XXX

Oh dear Liz, how incredibly unfortunate, carotid dissection. As if CH was not bad enough.........
Makes my blood boil thinking about the outrageous abusive and cavalier way the benefits system sets out to deny CH is a problem, meanwhile it is devastating the lives of sufferers.
Wishing you PF time and some peace and relaxation...............if CH will allow.
As you say, thank heavens for OUCH.cotherwise the isolation would be soooo much worse.
