Hi Chloe,

I have a wonderful 2 year old black Cockapoo called Bracken who is such an affectionate dog and a comfort!  Wouldn't be without him, he definitely keeps me going.

I have my beloved 8 year old Westie called Wellie.  He's my best mate, [apart from my hubby] and is great company.  He keeps me sane!

I have 10 Degus (Rodents) I only wanted 4, Petshops fault  they most certainly don't keep me sane. but I love having the company of the mad and the few. why else do i keep signing up for OUCH 

Chloe you should post some of your lion pics on this thread. I'd love to see more!

got no pets, if i visit my daughter her cat gives me breathing problems and sets off my asthma, used to breed tropical fiish as a school boy and sell them to pet shops. would like a dog but got old fashioned views where they are kept in a kennel in the garden where the wife would have them in the house, so never got one .

I thought you had a wife David, I thought you said you keep her in the camper van??

I have got no idea how to post pictures  yet, my facebook page has many of them especially when they were cute ikle babies

was just testing putting a picture on and that one came up first!  It's appropriate because he's one of my "pets" - it's the singing fireman!  lol

Im sure the 'singing fireman' is going to love being described as your pet and the knowledge that baby pictures are being posted on Forums...  it starts a dangerous precident.

the singing fireman is used to his mother doing stuff like this.  My three boys long ago accepted that they have no control over my actions.  God help them if ever I go senile...

SO... I have loved animals since I was tiny. Grew up with a dog and several cats. Was given rabbits and guinea pigs at a young age to take care of. I always wanted to get a job working with animals, and so when I went away to university in 2007, I decided I would spend my summers volunteering with animals. Of course, the natural choice here is to fly to South Africa alone and work with some 'dangerous' cats... ;)

I went four times in total to this particular park (although I do hope that one day I will be healthy enough to return) and worked with lions of all ages (days old to adult), tigers, leopards, and a whole range of African wildlife. Had the time of my life, made friends for life and learned so much about wildlife conservation, culture, etc. Also spent some time with the local pre-school where you really do get a lesson on how blessed we are.

Had a few scary moments, one in particular when my head suddenly hit while in an enclosure with three teenage lions. I went straight to the floor but thankfully they just came and lied with me instead of taking a chunk out of my leg or something.

I am proud of my travels and what I have achieved with CH, but sometimes it's just a reminder of how out of control it is now compared to then.

This is the lion I hand-reared and named. His name is Riley and he is about 2 weeks old in the photo I posted above. Here, he is 11 months old and I had literally just walked into the enclosure for the first time on that trip. Love my boy

Chloe thank you for sharing your story :-) I'd love to sit and chat to you about it! I'm bowled over by your courage. It takes guts to venture literally into the lions' den! Even travelling all alone is brave enough without the rest. Hope to hear more soon and I look forward to reading the next episode of your excellent chronicles x

Come Independence Day, what are the membership fees going to be for OUCH (Scotland) Scott?  Same overheads and not many of you in Scotland, sounds a bit top heavy to me.

Sean, come idependance, I am assured we will live in a land of milk and Honey and prior to the Scotland meeting I will discuss with King Alex (in waiting) the outlawing of CH which due to a policy statement will then cure CH north of the Border.

I loved the debate on whether Scotland should keep the pound when it's independent.

The relations between Scotland and England has been tensive at certain times during our history, so I think as a show of faith in our continuing allegience, Scotland should keep the Pound. Tell you what, make it a fiver.

This is hilarious and welldone Chloe for all your travelling and experinces with the big cats you only live 0nce and you are certainly making the most off it.Pity the clusters are now interrupting your life,We are dog lovers not cat I am afraid nothing against them really other than them always visiting our garden and leaving little presents behind.At themoment we rescued a german shepherd x stafffie who had been dumped one of 7 puppies ,she has repaid us by digging up the garden complete with flowers and anything else and stripping the wallpaper ,not actually going to redecorate yet and shredding the hallway carpet.Not always my most favourite pet we have had but she sort of grows on you as does the expense,she does get threathened with return to the RSPCA alot but then so did my kids in the day or anyway else I could think of and they did grow up realatively normal

Time to update the pet thread.  Chloe, I can't compete with your big cats but my son's cat had triplets and to my amazement, to please little granddaughter, Dave said we could have one of them.  He's a family man and didn't want to see them leave the family. He's such a big softie .  We went to visit them and came away somehow having agreed to take TWO of them! My son and his wife will keep the third one with mother cat.  Ours are going to be called Fluffy (was Kitty but turned out to be a boy) and Boots.  I have another few weeks before they take my house over...

Yes you had to call it fluffy 'cos thats a great masculine name that any male would be so pleased to be called..

Hahahaha!  Well, Fluffy is actually Roy behind granddaughter's back - hahaha!  Roy?  After Dave because he reminds 18 yr old grandson's mates of Roy Hodgson the England manager....I have no idea who he is.  Thoughts?

Well at least he has his self respect and can hold his head up high.

Am very lucky my two cats know when my arthritis is bad will just lay beside me same as when a cluster they are part of pain relief not sure could get through bad days with out my two babes Minnie 7yrs old was born a very small kitten still so tiny wears a kitten collar was found about to be burnt alive as they thought ugly & Mocha Choca Latte a feral kitten who has blossomed into an amazing cat has more followers on Facebook than his mum wish knew how to post a pic of them 

The only way I know to post pics is to store them online, then they have a url. I use Photo Bucket, but there are many sites that can store pictures.

Oh wow this post is amazing; it's really cheered me up when my clusters are bringing me down. Chloe your story with the big cats is extraordinary, as are your pictures you've so kindly shared with us.  I come from an animal loving family and it just sounds scary but amazing. At the same time, the other stories of your pets are really lovely too.

I'll share here too. I have grown up in a family that loves dogs but was never allowed to get one. Instead I grew up with Syrian hamsters.

From that love of hamsters as a child, when I moved homes for my job I now live in a flat so I cannot have any other pets such as a dog or a cat as it would be fair to them. Instead I have a male Syrian hammy who is able to cheer me up no matter how bad I'm feeling. He manages to get up to mischief all the time but also loves cuddles (The only hamster I know that does) 

Awww! I had hamsters as a child and they always made me chuckle watching them :) What's your hamster's name, Helen?
