Smoking
Smoking
I know like everyone else that smoking is no good for your health and I for one have tried to give up many times. I don't need anyone on here to tell me the health benefits of stopping!
Is there any scientific evidence that shows that if you give up smoking your CH attacks are less severe?
Is there any sufferers who have given up and found it makes a vast difference?
I did see a similar thread on Facebook recently but as always on FB the threads descend into dissaray and you lose all the sensible answers after a while.

Andy I am not sure there is a link, why do people who have never smoked get chronic clusters and with so many heavy smokers world wide I would expect clusters to be more common if that was the case.
just my view
[I have never smoked]
Smoker and proud:
I gave up for two weeks whilst in bout, the attack pattern shifted a bit, but was just as bad.
Everyone hates smokers, we caused every catastrophe; world wars, the fall of the Roman Empire, every debilitating disease...
Thanks guys it's looking so far that there is no evidence that by giving up the pain will be less severe, just as I thought.
A doctor wriggled out of prescribing O2 with the smoking excuse: O2 doesn't bond to haemoglobin as efficiently.
Tried to explain that we attack our bodies with 100% high flow and it defends by vasoconstriction, but doctors are thick.
Publicly two of our most eminent spicialists, Prof Goadsby and Manjit Matharu have stated we should all pack up smoking because its bad for our health but they have always qualified it by saying it will make no difference to our condition.

The reason the Prof and Dr Matharu advocated giving up smoking was it is one of the causes of arterio sclerosis [furred up blood vessels] and aggravates circulatory and cardio thoracic conditions. If you have any of those then you can't have triptans and if you have COPD you can't have oxygen. So its in our interests to give up! Also smoking can elevate blood pressure and again any circulatory problems, no triptans.
So think on!
Val.
"if you have COPD you can't have oxygen".
I agree with you Val, the difficulty is that virtually none of the specalists or GP's are aware of how dangerous this is.

I will probably die a smoker, not fused if that's soon.
It's the only thing that keeps me this side of insanity, especially
after arguing constantly with stupid Doctors.
I haven't been a good boy when it comes to taking pain-killers in the early days, smoked for 36 years. Giving up now will make no difference, my organs are probably a mess. My fate is sealed, so smoke me.
Old age means care home for many, I've worked in a few.
I'm not going to fester, trapped in my own mind with CH in my autumn years.
Although, surviving the weekend would be handy: I'm on cat care duty
'til my workplace opens again.
Merry ristmas.
