Hi! pretty new to the site so please bare with me.
Just been to Pharmacy to pick up my Sumatriptan needles for the weekend. I was told by the pharmasist that my repeat dispensary has been cancelled by a Doctor! I asked which Dr and when, which they were unable to tell me. Have been given four needles for the weekend and an appointment to see a Dr Monday morning. If I had been 15 minutes later I would have been stuck without any for the weekend and as i appear to be going through a chronic stage, the thought of this was terrifying.
The last time a Dr stopped my repeats was when I was on a high dose of Prednisolone and ended up in A&E.
On the awareness front,l was unfortunate enough to be in A&E on an unrelated condition when I had a CH come on, I asked the Triage nurse if there was somewhere quiet I could sit, and was told no as there was a Trauma in. Fair enough, except when I eventually got called through (it was not busy about 7 or 8 people) I found lots of empty booths I could have sat in rather than Having to squirm,groan,moan and writhe in public, have emailed hospital to see about CH awareness.
Any others had any of these probs, and what tack should i take on Monday at the GPs?

Hi Cornish,
Sorry to hearing you are having this trouble with getting your injections. The BNF (Doctors prescribing bible) states that sumatriptan injections are the first line of abortive treatment for Cluster Headache and then oxygen so there should not be an issue! Sadly though some GP's have an issue with cost which is ridiculous, treatment should not be withheld on the grounds of cost. If you run into problems getting what you need on Monday maybe a quiet word to the Practice Manager could be in order as withholding treatment means your GPs not observing his duty of care for you.

Cornish, Given they now seem to be saying you can’t have sumatriptan injections which as you know are in the BNF 4.7.4.3. How are they going to treat you? Over the counter obviously cant work as not only do the take forty minutes to get in to the blood stream, they don’t get to the correct part of the brain, Morphine doesn’t work , what are the suggesting as an alternative to the "worst pain know to mankind." Ask them if they would withhold pain relief to a lady in labour. Please let us know what they say.

Hi all
Been to Doctors, stated that no one has stopped my prescription! Told him that the Pharmacist and Receptionist both told me that a Doctor had! Now have all my Sumatriptan and they have tried me on Topiramate. He is writing to the Neurologist to see me again to get O2, Apparently I was not due to see him for another 5 months. So hopefully can get some more help, Pretty bad weekend this weekend yet feel quite fresh this morning? Thank you all for taking the time to comment on my dilemma.

There is no need to see your neurologist for O2, your GP can prescribe it.
