surgery headache?
surgery headache?
Hello all
I was diagnosed with CCH about 10 years back. I have been lucky to have been through a relative period of calm over the last 5 years just intermittent rattling of the cage by the beast.
Until yesterday. I had surgery for removal of a parathyroid gland so full Monty as far as anaesthetic goes. Glad to be sent home same day. But last night was as if the clock had been turned back 10 years... Full blown attack . Is it usual for surgery to cause such an angry response?
I have had a number of attacks over the last couple of months but usually short sharp bouts clusters . This one was just so persistent.

Sorry to hear that it has started up again Sue, but pleased you have had a break from it. I am sure one of the others will have better knowledge than me but when I have had surgery the head goes for completely for a few days, think they call it the "stun" effect, but am wondering if it can work the other way round as it seems to have with you! As I say there are better opinions than mine.
take care
Liz
Hi Sue
It could be because of the removal of the parathyroid - don't forget the hypothalamus [the seat of our problem] governs the release of hormones from all the body's glands; anything interfering with those glands such as removal may well upset the horrible beast that is our CH. Just a layman's guess of course. If my off the wall guess is right, then once the hormone levels settle the beast might retire? Are you okay for your usual meds in the meantime?
So nice to see you here again, but wish it was for other reasons than flippin' CH.
Val.
Thanks Liz and Val
I hadn't thought about the link of course between the hypothalamus and release of hormones! Sounds logical to me Val!
Things are starting to calm down again now I am glad to say, at least I had some injections on hand (like a comfort blanket ). I am seeing the doctor on Friday and will let him know that the CH has been generally playing me up again over the last few weeks leading up to this awful bout on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.
I moved from the North West to Ludlow about 4 years ago and have a very good doctor here but he admits that CH isn't something he has really dealt with before. Whereas in the North my doctor himself suffered CH so was great to talk to!
If I feel that I need to revisit a consultant (now 10 years on...) due to advancement of knowledge since my first diagnosis, would you suggest I ask to visit the London Clinic as the first preference?
Thanks x
Sue
Hi Sue,good to hear from you again, even for the wrong reasons. Brendan Davies at the North Staffordshire hospital,Stoke,is very knowledgeable and a good friend to Ouch.
How lucky you living in Ludlow! I was there the other week for the food festival.....we go every year. The bangers are fab.
