How can we get more interaction between the forum and Facebook?

Hi all

I found this poem/ditty on another site and asked to be able to copy it here it highlights the problems facing us with the popularity of social media and those who prefer not to take part on there

I have no solutions to the matter but am thinking of ways to try and connect the two more

Where have all the newbies gone,
     Long time passing.
Where have all the newbies gone,
     Long time ago.
Where have all the newbies gone,
     Gone to facebook, every one.
When will we ever learn?
     When will we ever learn.

Where have all the oldsters gone,
     Long time passing.
Never posting, not a one,
     Long time ago.
Where is all that knowledge now?
It can’t be passed on, anyhow.
When will we ever learn?
    When will we ever learn.

Where have all good manners gone,
     Long time passing.
We were here to help others along,
     Long time ago.
Newbies gone, the oldsters gone,
Knowledge gone, so sad, so wrong,
When will we ever learn?
     Why did we never learn.

sort of sums it up for me

contrary to the views of some, it's not because we have social media that nobody is here, indeed the forum was a very quiet zone for 12/18months before the Facebook group on OUCH was created.

Indeed at the time of the forum quieting down many people drifted from traditional forums, many of our sister charities closed theirs and didn't replace them. We kept ours, maintained ours and catered for those who don't like social media.

the trustees have tasked our IT team at drawing social media closer, but the background magic is still on going on.

My advice, create the party they will come, that party needs to be warm and friendly.

To post on this forum you need to pay a membership fee, all other forums I am on require membership but no fee for basic services such as posting on the forum. I am not saying this should change, I am very happy to pay my membership and more but with the status quo it will not get significally more traffic in my view.

The site is however a good opportunity to publish much more about the Charity which Facebook and other media does not offer so well.

We all know what an excellent job the Charity does in supporting and giving advice to sufferers but do we know how little money it receives to do this and the sources of that income. If people knew this I think it may encourage them to donate if  they didn't previously. What are the ongoing activities that Ouch is undertaking to meet its published aims and how can members support them in these activities. Are there any specific projects underway to support these aims where we can help. What are the key themes of the day concerning the trustees, it would be goood to know with perhaps publication of the meeting minutes and annual accounts on this site all with the aim of more involvement and support from members.

John,

There has been ongoing dialogue with regards to your suggestion.

Working on some details and indeed some training plans to make the charities work more visible to the membership and beyond.

Although what I will say that a very different statement to what ians request was but valid none the less.
