Hi from a New Member & PIP / Previously DLA

Hi all, I am a new member although have been following the site for a good few years.

As an episodic CH sufferer (diagnosed 20ish years ago) who is currently fine, I decided to catch up on the latest news/treatments etc for next time the beast returns.

During this research I noticed that some people are able to claim what used to be DLA (now called PIP) including in some cases the mobility allowance.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please, I have seen talk of Blue Badges and DLA payments but have no idea what I could be entitled to etc.  Also I have seen reference to the 'Black Ouch Card' and 'Martyn Lewis DVD', again no idea what these are.

Sorry for so much in one post but this community seems to be thriving since the introduction of the forum so I hope someone may be able to help.

Chris

It really depends on how bad you are affected, some of us are chronic others episodic in wide ranging time scales. Best to read up on each benefit and see if you feel you qualify, then ask the helpline if you have any questions.

The martyn lewis is a 4 min dvd supplied by ouch which explains what cluster attacks arehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFKMB8LNeMc

The black ouch card is what you get as a member to show concerned people when you suffer an attack in public.

Bingo!  Thanks.

It was acutally one of your posts I was reading or at least the replies to it that raised most of my questions.

Again Cheers

Hi Sue

And welcome!  For more info on benefits and entitlements, contact Neurosupport - see the Resources page, they are listed on there.  Neurosupport is an organisation that supports sufferers of all neurological diseases and assist with benefits and employment matters, re-training etc.  You will find them very helpful.

If you would like a copy of the DVD let me know by e-mail to val@ouchuk.org.  You will get an info card in your new member's pack.

Val. :)
