A successful abort.
Hi,
What is a successful abort exactly?
1) recognise the aura, take meds and stop attack completely?
2) take meds at height of attack and make it shorter (how much shorter).
Something else?
We have just tried nasal imigran, and it was the worst attack yet (lasted the longest). Took as soon as the pain hit.
Thanks,
Ollie

And Oxygen. What does this do?
Abort the attack? Reduce the pain? Remove the pain? Reduce the time?
Sorry for all the Q's.
Oli.
Hi Ollie,
I don't know what the definition of a successful abort is, but I class it as the pain going away sooner than it usually would have! I tried oxygen (i still have it) and found that after 10 mins of so it slightly reduced the pain level and I guess stopped it getting worse, but half an hour after stopping it the pain returned. I haven't tried the nasal stuff, I've got sumatriptan epi pens, they work like magic for me. Within 5 mins or so the pain is gone, but not before it has a little spike of torment on its way out. I've always felt the headaches are malicious!
I've been on a whack of Verapamil now for 7 years or so, it seems to be keeping them at bay for now but they are now without their side effects.

Thanks Pete.
Just FYI, I have spoken to someone at work whose ex suffers. They were also on a whack of verapamil. Recently they have managed to reduce the verapamil a little by using the daily gammacore treatment.
Not suggesting you change anything that is working, but maybe useful to know in case you ever need to reduce the verapamil or cannot increase the dose anymore etc.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Oli.
