Physical trauma triggering CH attacks?

Has anyone else experienced instances of a CH attack being triggered by a physical injury or trauma? I only ask because my latest bout coincided with me receiving an injury. I was walking up a flight of steps and the person in front of me had a knee give way, she fell backwards and knocked me off my feet resulting in three broken ribs. My CH returned about ten days later, I phoned my GP who said that the massive doses of painkillers I was taking for the injury could be affecting the efficiency of the Verapamil I usually use to control CH.  As the pain of broken ribs is far easier to contend with than the pain of CH, I stopped taking the other painkillers but the CH hasn't abated, it seems to be back with a vengeance.

I'm 65 this month and have been a CH sufferer for 50 years or more and to my knowledge I don't normally have any triggers, but this is the third time over the years that CH bouts have kicked off after a similar trauma.

I haven't personally had anything like this coinciding with the start of a bout but I have sometimes found that I went into cycle after prolonged periods of coping with traumatic events, bereavement, illness in the family, anything where I was dashing about and running on adrenalin.  Once it was over and I relaxed, bam - straight into a bout.It might be coincidence, I'm not sure because during those particular times, I hadn't yet worked out that there was a pattern or a cycle.

Aah Elma I really feel for you. I'm so sorry about what you've gone through.

Looking back, the beast has accompanied me during or after most of the big events in my life. At 22, I was being battered with a horrendous bout after the sudden death of my father who was only 47. I was reeling from the shock of it and battling through attacks, trying to help my mother.  I couldn't have managed without Dave's help.  Dad wasn't at home, we had to collect his clothes and car, it was a nightmare.  I call those the dark days when I had no treatment whatever.  The beast kept me company during pregnancy and childbirth too.  I had attacks the whole time I was in hospital having my middle son.  I had many a holiday or event ruined too.  I count myself lucky nowadays having the means to abort attacks.

All the best xx

Thank you Elma. I'm in remission but finished my last bout a year gone Feb so sometime this year... I'm a bit of a loose cannon now since length of remissions changed.

Once upon a time the medical profession thought that trauma couldn't cause CH, but a couple of years back the IHS - International Headache Society - changed their guidance and said that trauma could trigger CH, both first time cycles and in those who already suffer.  Elma, yours must be the worst trauma cause of CH, and its a double whammy because of the grieving process.
