Candesartan (Atacand)
Has anybody tried this new 'wonder drug'?
I've been on it since Christmas- currently at 12mg out of the 16mg suggested by neuro- and it seems to be having no effect whatsoever so far. My GP thinks i may need to be on the full dose for a good 3 months before any judgement can be made.
Just wondeing if anyone has had any relief and if so at what level and how long did it take?

hi miss k, just got this reply, will let you if i here any thing else, i dont think the cut an paste works on this site so will send you an email no probs d
Sadly, Candesartan is a blood pressure drug and won't work in CH. The best preventine is a drug called verapamil, a calcium channel blocker usually used in heart conditions. Talk to your neuro/GP.
Val.
Been on canderstarten since i had them migraines and seems to have stopped my headaches completely though i suspect that the cluster headaches had already subsided before i was put on the bp medication. That's why I've been keeping a low profile off here feel a bit odd being headache free though i pray your all doing well as can be. Great news that idd has resigned ☺

I was on Verapimil for about a year with no noticible improvement, so my neuro put me on Candesartan instead. (I have tried all of the "ususal preventatives" over the last 10 years, and I think they are now running out of options). I do also get migraines, so Anitaspauls comments are encouraging, but as for the CH,I'm quite disheartened.

Hi misskittymouse ☺ think between the canderstarten and having my upper teeth removed killed my head's dead even when I'm dog tired and stressed barely get a tingle and if i do subsides without thinking about them too much.

I think having me teef out might be a step too far for me hahah!

I am on a low dose of Candesarten for BP and my HC has worsened slightly since taking them. As Val said it is not usually used for CH.
Had to be done and apart from my temporary dentures having a brand new set of full top dentures which should be completed any week now

Oh dear.Is my neuro an idiot????
I've got to stick with it for 3 months at full dose before they can assess the efficacy. Maybe I will be lucky....

Who's your neurologist?
There's a long list of medical professionals on the idiots list; but there's a few diamonds in the rough.
Personally, I think you'll find Candesartan blocks vasoconstriction to alleviate some strain on the heart, so if anything, would make your condition worse.
But, not a doctor.
