Sumatriptan injections out of stock?

Dear All,

I tried to get hold of sumatriptan injections, but the pharmacies I went so far all told me that it is out of stock. Is there any chance to get it via NHS on prescription?

Is it worth trying more pharmacies?

Are there online pharmacies which have it in stock?

Are there alternative brand names or "versions" I could ask the GP to prescribe?

I'm living in St Albans, North of London, and work in Uxbridge, in case anyone knows the area and where to get it there...

I'm in my first bout, it's getting worse by the day, and I still haven't seen a neurologist (appointment is early October)...   Sad

Best wishes,

Andre

Notice your question about whether sumatriptan injections are available via nhs prescription.

That is exactly how you should be getting it. The NICE guidelines for GPs treating CH direct the prescribing of oxygen and an adequate supply of Triptans in injection or nasal spray form, not tablets.

However many sufferers have tales to tell of difficulties getting their GPs to actually do this, which seems to be caused by a combination of the appaling lack of understanding of CH and an unwillingness to spend the money.

Have you tried asking your GP for these meds?

Also, when you see the neurologist you can make sure that when he writes to the GP he directs them to prescribe these for you and states up to 2 injections every day.

Thanks a lot for your posts. I got them NHS prescribed, but initially all pharmacies in my area were not able to get hold of them. However, surprisingly now they got them, so I'm fine after all.
