Sun Pharmaceuticals

I use the pre-filled sumatriptan injection pens from Sun Pharmacueticals and have just been informed by my pharmacy (Lloyds) that there will be no further supplies available until 2016.  I have De Quervains disease of the hand and am unable to load the cartridges in the Immigran system.

Does anyone know of another pre-filled system?  The thought of going without for a year scares me and I'm trying hard not to panic.

Hi SueBlue

Firstly, try not to panic. I know that's easy to say, but where there's a problem there's a solution just waiting to happen ;)

I'm guessing that for Lloyds to have said that then your pharmacist has spoken with their 'Specials Department'. This is the department which supplies their Sun Pharma injections. If not, then your first port of call could be to suggest he/she calls this department.

Next thought is try another chemists, and I guess Boots would be a logical choice.

If both these options fail then come back to OUCH and I suspect the officers/trustees may be able to help. There is a Sun Pharma contact in the Netherlands who has helped with supply in the past.

The Sun Pharma option has been the injection of choice for a few years now. There are several good reasons for this. One of the reasons I switched was due to the difficulty of having to load the pen at quarter past midnight every night whilst having a full blown red-eye. It's not easy so I can fully appreciate why it would not be viable for someone with your condition.

However SueBlue, help is at hand so hang on in there. If it is possible, see if your local Boots can help. They might be able to deliver? If you continue to have problems then come back to the forum, I'm sure we will be able to help.

Keep smiling!

Sean :)

There  have been posts on this subject on the Facebook page too, I am stunned!  I too use the Sun pharma injections and it seems very odd that they won't have any until 2016.  Very bad business planning on the part of Sun if that is the case and huge loss of revenue if it really is the case.

OUCH is on the case!
