O2 not working..... Advise?

Hi guys,

At onset I get on oxygen, attack fades, continue on oxygen, come off oxygen and.... Within minutes the attack starts up again, as far as I can tell as strong as the original attack was going to be.

I'm using an o2ptimax mask, 15l/m, bag is just about fully inflating and deflating, I've shaved my beard for a good seal and hold the mask on pretty tight ( despite tender nose). It clears the pain in minutes and I continue for 15 minutes after that.

wondering what more there is I can do.....

thanks in advance

Dave

Dave, seems you are having rebound attacks, its areal pain and you are doing the correct thing staying on the 02 for 15 minutes after the attack. The only thing I can suggest is go on the ouch trial for Ultrahighflow 02. Its quicker working than high flow and there are hardly any rebounds. There is a waiting list..

Thanks, I'll look into it but at the moment I'm in the States. I'll check what it entails and see what we can do here.

I have access to aviation oxygen at work, demand valve and under pressure, if it's a case of the more the merrier I may try that just to see - not been able to fly since attack started Sad

Dave the demand valve forms part of our Ultra-high flow O2 setup. If you have access to one and if you can fit it on your cylinders it's definitely worth a try. The UK demand valves require a Schrader connection, not sure about yours.

Thanks, I'll see what I can find out here.

I was also intending to investigate whether the bottles out here are the same as back home, as I've had to buy all the stuff here and wonder if it'll be any use when I come home next year.

"I have access to aviation oxygen at work... - not been able to fly..."
Wouldn't that be great though? Biggrin

Ironically, Red Bull (cold and fast) can abort an attack.

Hi Dave, and welcome to the forum.

Mike: Is that vagus nerve stimulator thingy available yet?
Obviously, a different abortive may offer a break from O2.

Will try the red bull option, I'm not an energy drink drinker but I can always start!

turns out whilst I could drive to work ( impossible in an attack and would mean I'm too late) and sit on an aircraft taking demand O2 ... They don't have high pressure gaseous, only liquid O2 so I can't even scrounge a refill :-(

Phil, you mean GammaCore. Not yet available on The NHS but it is to purchase. If anybody buys it and it doesnt work money is refunded.

So now I'm interested.
(Hopefully this doesn't count as thread-jacking)

I'm guessing it has no significant rebound?
Do we have a link?

Thanks Mike.
I did think "Why don't I just Google it?" after I posted.

But at least Dave now has another option to consider.

I had terrible problems with oxygen masks and ended up making my own bespoke masks.

I used to have masks that didn't fit very well,  the ones with the metal band over the bridge of the nose but they worked fine. The new masks I was provided with last year are the Intersurgical Ecolite ones and they are useless because it is impossible  to keep the bag inflated, even at full flow.

The new masks have an excellent face seal though and I have taken the bags off of the old masks and fitted them to the new face mask. They work perfectly and have allowed me to reduce the oxygen flow rate to as low as 10 lpm.
