Great Scottish Run - Half Marathon
I'm running the Great Scottish Run - half marathon for Organisation for the Understanding of Cluster Headaches (OUCH UK). This condition is close to my heart and affects my family directly. I would appreciate if you would take 2 minutes to read about Cluster Headaches.
Cluster headache is one of the most painful conditions someone can suffer. The term "headache" does not adequately convey the severity; it may be the most painful condition known to medical science. Women have described the pain as being significantly worse than child birth.
The excruciating pain has also earned it the nickname “the suicide headache” with many contemplating suicide; some taking their own lives to escape the pain.
It is so misunderstood that sufferers often go years without a diagnosis or treatment. Each attack typically lasts between 15 minutes and 3 hours, and can occur several times a day or night. There is no cure and attacks can be triggered by many external factors such as alcohol, strong smells and even sleep! Sufferers often feel alone, exhausted and desperate, with many unable to work and developing social anxieties.
OUCH (UK) is run by sufferers for sufferers of Cluster Headaches, offering vital support, guidance and advice to patients, families and health care professionals. They are a very small charity who make a massive impact on the lives they help. Any donation, no matter how small, will go a long way to help.
