Hi Moo-cow

I'm not sure what you mean? I've had oxygen for 10 years and I've never had any stickers on the front of my house. Even if that is a requirement now I wouldn't worry about it too much, I'd just focus on using the oxygen to help with your condition.

In the early days I just worked everything on common sense and somehow managed to survive without any help from the Health & Safety Police. I even took it upon myself to contact the local fire station and provided them with full details regarding my oxygen and location etc. Back then, nobody seemed interested, even the Fire Brigade said it was irrelevant, stating they would have put any fire out long before my cylinders were at risk :~. Air Products (as they were then) had never issued me with a fire safety valve thingy, and they had never requested to attend my house to check my equipment.

Then, 8 years later, I casually mentioned at a meeting that I had never been issued with a fire safety valve thingy, and I had never been subjected to a risk assessment. I wish I'd kept my mouth shut. My oxygen supplier is now obsessed with ticking health & safety boxes to the point of being irritating. 8 years no attention, now they are all over me like a rash just so they can tick their boxes, it's mad. A common sense balanced approach would have been the obvious solution as opposed to the current madness.

After a couple of risk assessments I started taking the mickey. Conversations would go; "Come in, there is the cylinder, it hasn't moved since you saw it last time and it still doesn't have a fire safety valve fitted. If you'd like to provide me with one which works with a demand valve I'll gladly fit it. Goodbye, see you next week". I've now started refusing risk assessments as the Health & Safety Police are wasting my time. I know I should be grateful for having the O2, especially when some sufferers haven't got it, but sometimes these small minded people drive me mad.

Don't get me on to medical secretaries, that's a whole new rant!!

Rant over ;)

Hi Moo-cow,

This might help:  https://ouchuk.org/sites/default/files/downloads/high_flow_oxygen_therap...  its in the downloads on the Resources page, but that link should take you straight to it.  Also, the oxygen company usually supply you with a sticker for your car saying you carry oxygen, to alert emergency services if your vehicle is involved in an incident and useful for first aiders to know there is oxygen nearby is someone is take ill in the street.  As far as I'm aware you don't need a sticker for your front door or house.

As I said, it in the downloads list on the resources page.  Go to the Resources page of the main website, click on downloads and the document I tried to link to is in the list there.

I'm sure many of us can relate to that Moo-cow.

Speaking from personal experience, at the extreme of 8 a day, for me just the change in temperature from walking from the bedroom into the bathroom would be enough to kick the next one off. Try explaining that to a non-sufferer! In fact, could someone please explain that to me!! :~

All I can say is that as you gain experience you gain confidence, you need to understand your cycle. Stick to your baseline treatment and don't experiment with heavy duty alternative medication e.g. steroids until you fully understand all the implications.

Hang on in there my friend.

Mr Git ;)

I've never had stickers either.  The fire service and BOC do home safety checks regularly.  I may ask for a sticker for my car when I get my next delivery.
