Hi everyone. I am returning after 2 years pain free after 10 years of chronic CCH (formerly posted as chrisb). In February 2014 I contracted meningitis and was in hospital for quite a while. The unexpected benefit (!) was that my cluster headaches went away for very nearly 2 years but have now returned after all time. I can't imagine how the meningitis had a benefical effect on the cluster headaches but wanted to mention this just in case there were any similar cases out there.

You story just confirms to me that CH is a bizarre condition that seems to have a life of its own! Very sorry it has resumed, but hope you got to enjoy the two pf years. I wonder if it was the meningitis itself....or something you were treated with.....? Do you remember what treatments you had?

Harriet.

Hi Harriet

It would be hard to tell if it was anything in the treatment. I discovered later that there were a number of different antibiotics over a number of days. I can only think think that the effect on the brain was so severe that the CH triggers (whatever they might be) were somehow disabled for a while. Not very scientific I know but the docs are mystified as well...
